A getaway to Pai, a small town in northern Thailand

There was a time when the scenic town of Pai, which is located in the hills of northern Thailand, was located somewhat apart from the typical tourist routes. After arriving in the “Country of Smiles” and initially staying in the south, the hippy expatriates traveled farther north until they discovered Pai, where they established a community of free-thinking souls. Even though most of them have been gone for quite some time, the bohemian spirit that they left behind can still be felt throughout the streets of Pai. Pai is now well-connected for travelers. However, the drive there from Chiang Mai still has some element of an adventure to it. Additionally, the gently undulating hills in the area have recently been popular with tourists. These are just a few of the reasons why you should consider going to Pai.

Experiences in the middle of nature

The Huai Nam Dang National Park is a wonderful destination for anyone who enjoys being outdoors. The park is a wonderful area for animal observation, particularly of samba deer and a large number of different species of birds. It also features waterfalls and sulfurous hot springs that visitors can enjoy. However, if we are talking about nature, the most remarkable natural spot in Pai is its famed canyon. This canyon is a genuinely amazing geological accident that is located a few kilometers outside of the town.

Pai Markets

One of the greatest places to eat in Pai is the daily street market; here, you will most likely be able to sample the tastiest food that can be found elsewhere in town. The foods and recipes that are native to the country’s northern territories are typically milder in heat and richer in aroma than those found in the southern regions of the country. In contrast to other markets that are located in pedestrian zones, which tend to become active later in the day, you are free to eat at any time of the day in this bustling marketplace. Pai markets are known for their gastronomy, but they also provide a wide variety of locally manufactured apparel and accessories, including some genuinely unique pieces. Artisan jewelry is a particular highlight of the market in Pai.

Nearby towns

The area surrounding Pai is teeming with small inhabited nuclei, many of which are located relatively close to one another, such as Mae Yen. The pastoral atmosphere of Mae Yen is in stark contrast to the hustling and bustling activity of the town centre, which is dominated by an impressive Buddha statue in white. Santichon, which is located in the surrounding area of Pai and is worthy of a visit in its own right, is a town that is evocative of the towns in Yunnan and provides visitors with the opportunity to discover more about the cultural characteristics that originated in that part of China. Come take in the breathtaking panoramas offered by the Yun Lai viewpoint. The scenery is even more breathtaking when enjoyed with a cup of organic green tea that was cultivated on the slopes of the neighbouring hills.

Adventures for all tastes

When you live somewhere that is surrounded by so many natural wonders, you begin to take an adventure for granted. Rafting down the Pai River is widely considered to be among the most thrilling activities available anywhere in Thailand. An additional one of the thing that may be done is to ride a mountain bike around the neighbourhood and investigate the different fields and forests there. Back in the city, we can still find numerous pubs that emit the hippy ambiance of those days when the first westerners found Pai and put this small town on the tourist routes. Those days were back when Pai was first put on the tourist routes.
