Ko Samui, the paradise of smiles

Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao are the three islands that fall under the jurisdiction of the Surat Thani province. Since the 15th of July of this past year, the ” Samui Plus ” program has made it possible for international travelers who have received vaccinations to visit certain areas and routes on these islands. We tell you about some of the attractions that can be found on these island destinations, each marking a new stage in gradually opening up Thailand to the tourism industry.

Ko Samui

The island of Ko Samui features a diverse collection of locations that are just waiting to be discovered and explored. Rock formations that stand out include the Rock of the Grandfather and the Rock of the Grandmother, also known respectively as Hin Ta and Hin Yai. In Ko Samui, the rocky formations known as Hin Ta and Hin Yai are part of a complex that can be found at the southernmost end of Lamai beach. They were given their names due to the fact that their shapes mimic the male and female reproductive systems, respectively.

Wat Khunaram is a temple located on the same beach as the mummified monk of Ko Samui. The temple also allows visitors to learn about certain aspects of Buddhist and Thai culture. After the monk Luong Pordaeng passed away in the year 1973 as he was seated in meditation, his body was placed in a vertical glass case and has been on display in the temple ever since.

Surprisingly, the body of the monk displays almost no indications of degradation even after a number of decades have passed. Some tourists may find it unsettling to see a dead body on display, but for Thai people, doing so is a sign of respect for the departed.

You can go to the Na Muang waterfalls if you want to get away from the beaches and interact with nature at the same time. These waterfalls are located about 12 kilometres inland from Nathon Bay and can be reached on foot along a path.

The first waterfall, which is referred to as Na Muang 1, plunges into a breathtaking natural pool that serves as a welcome relief from the sweltering heat. The more compact but no less alluring Na Muang 2 can be reached via a steep ascent that takes about half an hour. Because the area around the waterfalls is densely forested and overgrown with vegetation, you need to be careful not to lose your footing on the route.

Those who are interested in a wellness vacation can go to the Dipabhavan Meditation Center, which is located on the tallest mountain on the island. While there, they can participate in a meditation session and listen to a discourse given by the monks. An excellent strategy for relaxing and finding inner calm while surrounded by the island’s breathtaking natural scenery.

Ko Tao

On the island of Ko Tao, which is a popular tourist attraction due to the high standard of its scuba diving and a large number of different species of sea turtles that can be seen in its incredibly clear seas, the sun never sets. There are waters teeming with marine life that wash impressive beaches with white sand, and there are palm palms that sway in the breeze from the hills around. If you enjoy relaxing on the sand, you just must visit this paradise, since it is home to some of the most breathtaking beaches in the entirety of Thailand.

Along with Ko Tao, another one of the must-see islands is Ko Nangyuan, a teeny-tiny island that is home to three even tinier islets and offers breathtaking panoramas. Mae Haad Beach, which is the city’s primary commercial district, is known for its exciting nightlife, which includes a variety of stores, bars, and restaurants.

Last but not least, we strongly suggest spending some time at the busy and expansive Sairee beach, which is also known for its exciting nightlife. Haad Tien, often referred to as Rocky Bay, is one of the beaches that is located the furthest away from Mae Haad. Snorkeling in its bay, with its incredibly clear waters, allows visitors to see black tip reef sharks.

Ko Pha-Ngan

Ko Pha-ngan, which is located on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, may be reached by speedboat in just twenty minutes while travelling from Ko Samui. In a location that is widely regarded as being among the best in Thailand for diving and snorkelling, the ideal time to go is immediately after it has rained. Dive at any time of day or night here, and go back in time to explore sunken ships and other ruins. In these seas teeming with life, divers have the opportunity to see some of the species that are most sought after by divers, such as whale sharks and rays. They may also view fish with vivid colours and magnificent coral reefs.

In addition to activities centred on the water, Ko Pha-ngan provides opportunities for land-based excursions that are suited to hikers of varying experience levels. In Nam Tok Phaeng National Park, the Domsila viewpoint may be reached after a climb that takes around 15 minutes. You can take a longer path that passes through this natural space via a dense jungle that has been carefully conserved if you begin at that location.
