Are you looking for a beach that is calm and peaceful yet offers a wide variety of dining options and retail establishments? If you’re looking for the perfect place to stay in Phuket, Kata Beach is it. In addition to that, if you are a surfer, you will find that this is the best beach in Phuket for you to visit between the months of May and October.
Both Kata Yai and Kata Noi beaches, located in the Kata region of Phuket, see a sizable number of vacationers every day. Kata Yai is the larger of the two beaches. Kata Yai is the larger beach that is located further north, whilst Kata Noi is a beach that is only a little bit smaller.
Kata is a place that is quite popular due to the fact that its beaches are relatively paradisiacal (white sand, palm trees on the beach, etc.), there are many restaurants and lodgings, and the night is active, but in a more subdued manner than Patong Beach.
The beaches of Kata may be found in the southeastern part of the island of Phuket, approximately south of Karon Beach and not far from Patong Beach. Kata can be reached from Phuket International Airport in a little over an hour by car. You have the choice of taking a bus, which is the most affordable but also the most time-consuming mode of transportation, or driving yourself to Kata from the airport.
What to see in Kata Beach Thailand?
Wat Kittisankaram is a temple dating back to the 19th century that can be found at the foot of a hill and is surrounded by tropical vegetation. The beach may be reached by travelling one kilometre in either direction. If you want to get away from the beach and the shops for a while and go on a stroll instead, this is a great choice for you to consider.
Karon Viewpoint
Visiting the Karon viewpoint is an activity that comes highly recommended if you are going to be at Kata Beach Thailand. This is despite the fact that it could strike you as odd. This viewpoint used to be known as Kata Viewpoint, and it is located in the neighbourhood of Kata. The view of Kata Noi and Kata Yai that can be had from this vantage point is very breathtaking.
Because it is located around 4 kilometres away from the heart of Kata Beach, visitors will require transportation in order to reach the viewpoint. At the very peak, there is a collection of food booths and chairs where visitors can sit and take in the breathtaking panoramas.
Distance from Kata Beach to prominent places

- From Kata Beach to Patong: approximately 20 minutes by road
What to do in kata beach Thailand?
Surfing or windsurfing
If the beaches of Kata are known for anything else, it is their waves. Between the months of May and October, you may observe a large number of surfers paddling out into the ocean in search of waves to ride. In general, provided that there is not an excessive amount of wind, the waves at Kata Beach Thailand are at a level that is appropriate for surfers of beginner to intermediate ability.
You may rent surf or windsurf boards in Kata for as little as 150 baht per hour, and there are also private instructors in the area that provide beginner lessons in these water sports.
If you are not particularly experienced at surfing, you should exercise extreme caution since the waves, depending on the wind, can be quite powerful at times. The swell and the waves may be unexpected depending on the weather, particularly if there is a strong wind. The waves can come from any direction, and the swell can be unpredictable as well.
You may go surfing at the Kata Surf House, which is located in Kata, even if you aren’t brave enough to face the waves of the ocean. Here, you can ride waves that are replicated. Sessions can be reserved for THB1,000, which is equivalent to roughly €26.
Snorkeling in Kata Noi
Snorkeling is one of the other water sports that visitors may enjoy to Kata Noi in addition to surfing. A rocky location that is excellent for snorkelling may be found near the southernmost tip of Kata Noi, which is referred to as Kata Noi Noi. There you will find tropical fish, as well as portions of coral reef.
You may also have a good time at Kata Beach Thailand by renting a jet ski or a “banana boat” and going for a cruise around the coastline. These are two of the many available activities.
Entertainment and shops in Kata Yai
In Kata Yai, you may enjoy some pleasant time spent shopping or just chilling out with a drink. There are a good number of stores located on the street level, in addition to a few retail malls and marketplaces. As we part ways, these are some of the most well-known:
Palm Square Phuket
It is a place that provides a tranquil and contemporary atmosphere and is home to a collection of stores, restaurants, patios, and bars. You may do your shopping in Palm Square at one of its many apparel boutiques, art galleries, or traditional natural product stores. Alternately, you may do so if you would rather view the sunset over Kata from one of their terraces. You can also choose to eat at one of the hotel’s other seven restaurants.
Kata Night Market
It is a year-round covered market that features a large number of food vendors. You will also be able to locate souvenirs, allowing you to go shopping for mementos if you so choose. It is on the Kata New Road where you will discover it.
Go to cooking classes
Attending a cooking class is an excellent way to spend your time if you enjoy preparing food and are curious about the cuisine of Thailand. In this session, you will learn how to make a variety of meals that are considered to be the national specialties of Thailand. Cooking workshops tailored to visitors are frequently available in a variety of locations. In most schools, lessons are broken up into the following three sections:
- Go to the market to buy the ingredients with the teacher
- Prepare a complete menu based on typical dishes
- And, best of all, taste the dishes!

Where to stay in Kata Beach Thailand?
There are many different types of accommodations available in the Kata Beach area. Two more hotels, both of which come highly recommended by us, are as follows:
Kata Beach Resort and Spa
This four-star resort is another one that can be found in Kata Noi. It is situated just in front of the beach and is only a two-minute walk away. There are three restaurants within the hotel, in addition to the Kanda Spa, which is where guests may receive treatments to improve their health. In it, you’ll also find a children’s section in addition to the two swimming pools. The rooms at this resort are far larger than those at Katathani Phuket Resort, and the decor is decidedly more traditional.
Katathani Phuket Resort
A resort with five stars that is situated just in front of Kata Noi beach. It is a beautiful complex only one minute from the beach and offers high-quality facilities including restaurants, a spa, swimming pools, and more. It houses the Tew Son Spa, which is known for its soothing treatments and massages, and it is open to guests. The rooms are opulent, contemporary, and offer plenty of space. An excellent alternative in the event that you do not wish to reduce the level of luxury experienced.
